***************************************************Happy Monday!!!!!!!**********************************************************
I apologize for not updating the site for the past two weeks; Beginning of the Year Assessments has kept me very busy. Analyzing data and formulating lessons to fit the needs of small groups can be very time consuming. Thank you all for your patience and support during this time. We have a very busy schedule this week. Reading we are focusing on Story Sequence and Story Elements (Characters, Settings, Problem and Solution) We will have our comprehension test on Stellaluna Tuesday. On Thursday we will begin our new story Nightsong. We will continue to work on Story Elements and we will learn about Character Traits. Math we are continuing to work on Subtraction. If you would like to support your child at home please have them practice writing equations. First graders always need practice on writing minus and equal signs. We are so use to addition, we always make the mistake of writing plus signs in subtraction equations. Word problems are also great practice. It promotes comprehension along with addition and subtraction practice. In Science we are beginning Echolocation. --------------------------------------------------------- Events This Week-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Wednesday: Johansen's Children's Farm. Please dress for the weather because we will be outside all day. Make sure your child wears shoes that you don't mind getting dirty. Friday: PJs & Popcorn. The 8th grade class is sponsoring this fundraiser. For $2.00 your child can wear pajamas to school and they will receive a bag of popcorn. If you do not want your child to participate please send them to school in their PE uniform. Have a great week and Thank You for all you do!!! Happy Monday!!!! I do apologize for not posting last week but we are consumed with our new reading assessment. BAS (Benchmark Assessment System) is a one-to-one student teacher assessment that will provide a detailed reading inventory of your child reading strengths and areas of need. This test will be used throughout the school year to promote reading growth at all academic levels. This assessment provides a wealth of information that I will share with you but it is very time consuming, so please forgive me while I focus on completing this task. Reading: This week we will begin our Bats Unit. Today the class read a non-fiction passage on bats and answered comprehension questions. This week we will also practice Retelling Stories using the story Stellaluna. We will work on this book for the next 2 weeks as we learn new concepts such as, compare and contrast, story sequence and problem and solution. Happy Monday!!!!! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and enjoyed the beautiful weather. We were Facebook Celebrities last week. First Grade is rocking the PBIS Traits and behavior expectations. This week we are continuing to practice First-Grade behavior and expectations.
Please do not worry about Moby Max, Parent Portal, or Class Dojo at this time. I will focus on academics once Beginning of the Year testing is completed. The Class Dojo information that I share is to keep you updated on what is happening in our class. Please don't worry about your child's behavior, if I call you, email you or speak with you that means I have concerns. My notes on Class Dojo are just tidbits of information. Once again, if you need to contact me right away Class Dojo is the quickest way. I will not be available by phone or email until 24 hours after you have contacted me. Have a Great Week!!!!
